If you’re a fan of G-SHOCK watches like I am, you know that each new release brings something fresh and exciting to the table. The latest in the 2100 series—the GM-2110D—continues this tradition, blending the iconic toughness G-SHOCK is known for with a sleek, modern design. While the GM-2110D isn’t an entirely new model, it introduces fresh dial colours that breathe new life into the GM-2100D lineup. In this article, we’ll explore what makes the GM-2110D stand out, how it compares to other models in the 2100 line, and why it might just be the perfect addition to your collection.

A Quick History of the G-SHOCK 2100 Line

The 2100 series has become a cornerstone of the G-SHOCK lineup since the introduction of the GA-2100 in 2019. Known for its slim profile and octagonal bezel, the GA-2100 was quickly nicknamed the "CasiOak" by enthusiasts due to its resemblance to a luxury sports watch. Since then, G-SHOCK has expanded the 2100 family with various models, each offering something unique.

Here’s a breakdown of where the GM-2110D fits within the broader 2100 lineup, including essential sizing details:

GA-2100:

    • Case Size: 48.5mm × 45.4mm × 11.8mm

    • Weight: Approximately 51 grams

    • Design: The original "CasiOak," known for its all-resin build and minimalist design. This model is perfect for those who appreciate simplicity and affordability in their G-SHOCK.

Curious about the GA-2100? I’ve reviewed the popular GA-2100-1A1ER model.

      GA-B2100:

    • Case Size: 48.5mm × 45.4mm × 11.9mm

    • Weight: Approximately 52 grams

    • Design: An evolution of the GA-2100, this model includes Bluetooth connectivity and solar power, making it a smart choice for tech enthusiasts.

I had the pleasure of doing a hands-on review of the GA-B2100 series—definitely worth a read if you’re interested in the latest tech features.

      GBM-2100:

    • Case Size: 49.8mm × 44.4mm × 11.8mm

    • Weight: Approximately 53 grams

    • Design: This model adds Multi-Band 6 radio-controlled timekeeping, ensuring that your watch always displays the correct time, no matter where you are in the world.

      GM-2100:

    • Case Size: 49.3mm × 44.4mm × 11.8mm

    • Weight: Approximately 72 grams (due to the metal bezel)

    • Design: The first in the 2100 series to introduce a metal bezel, offering a more premium look while maintaining G-SHOCK’s rugged durability.

You can explore my thoughts on the GM-2100 in my hands-on review of the GM-2100 Steel “CasiOak”.

      GM-2110D:

    • Case Size: 49.3mm × 44.4mm × 11.8mm

    • Weight: Approximately 146 grams (due to the metal bezel and band)

    • Design: The newest addition, featuring a thinner profile and enhanced build quality with a metal bezel and band, making it both stylish and functional.

Personally, I’ve always been drawn to the Octagon case shape in the 2100 line—it just feels so wearable. However, I’d typically shy away from the GM-2100D because of the added weight from the full steel construction. But after spending a week with the new orange and silver dial versions, I’m beginning to see the appeal. Yes, the weight is noticeable, but it’s not overwhelming. In fact, it adds to the sense of toughness, making the watch feel like it could take on anything.

What’s New with the GM-2110D?

The GM-2110D series offers several key features that make it a standout choice:

  • Double LED Light (Super Illuminator): This ensures you can easily read the time, whether you’re outdoors at night or in a dimly lit room.

  • World Time: With coverage for 31 time zones and 48 cities, this feature is perfect for those who travel frequently.

  • 1/100-Second Stopwatch and Countdown Timer: Ideal for timing your workouts, cooking, or any other activity where precision is key.

  • 5 Daily Alarms: Helps you stay organized with multiple reminders throughout the day.

  • Hand Shift Feature: Moves the hands out of the way to provide an unobstructed view of the digital display.

On the wrist, the GM-2100D feels incredibly robust. Despite the added weight, I found it to be very comfortable on my just-over-7-inch wrist. The watch definitely has a strong wrist presence, especially with the polished steel case and bracelet—people noticed it, and I even got a few compliments.

The GM-2110D series is available in a range of vibrant dial colors:

  • Lime Green

  • Orange

  • Silver

These options ensure that there’s a style for everyone, whether you prefer something bold and eye-catching or more subdued and classic. The vibrant colours combined with the polished steel really make these watches stand out. The orange dial, in particular, grabbed attention wherever I went. It’s a conversation starter for sure!

How Does the GM-2110D Stack Up?

When comparing the GM-2110D to other models in the 2100 line:

  • Versus the GA-2100: The GM-2110D offers a more premium build with a metal bezel and band, appealing to those who want both style and durability.

  • Versus the GA-B2100 and GBM-2100: While the GM-2110D doesn’t have the tech features like Bluetooth or solar power, it offers a refined design and enhanced build quality that may appeal more to those who prioritize aesthetics.

  • Versus the GM-2100: The GM-2110D improves upon the GM-2100 with a thinner profile and even more sophisticated design, making it a great choice for those who loved the GM-2100 but are looking for something a bit more refined.

If you’ve been avoiding the GM-2100D because of the weight like I did, I’d highly recommend trying one on before ruling it out. You might be surprised at how well it wears and how comfortable it feels. For those who need a super tough watch for outdoor pursuits or heavy gym routines, or if you just prefer a bracelet over a resin strap, the GM-2100D is a fantastic option.
